本課程將會介紹「後設形上學」在最近幾年的發展，特別是關於「形上學」這門學科本身的方法學、存有學、以及知識論等議題。我們會仔細地研究底下的這些問題：形上學裡的爭辯是有意義的嗎？還是只是字詞之爭？我們要如何解決形上學爭議？實在界是否具有某種按基礎程度分層的結構？我們又要如何理解「基礎」是什麼意思？真的有所謂最基礎的存有嗎？我們如何能擁有形上真理的知識？直覺是獲得這種形上知識的可靠方式嗎？我們該使用「思想實驗」來談形上學嗎？

在本課程中，我們會使用T. E. Tahko的教科書來介紹後設形上學：An Introduction to Metametaphysics (CUP 2015)。除此之外，我們也會觸及其它相關的文獻，用來加深對後設形上學的了解。

This course aims to introduce students to the recent development in meta-metaphysics, focusing especially on issues concerning the methodology, ontology, and epistemology of the discipline of metaphysics itself. We shall be carefully studying the following questions: Are metaphysical debates substantial or merely verbal? How can we settle metaphysical debates? Is reality structured by levels of more and less fundamental entities? How can we understand talks about fundamentality? Is there a most fundamental level of reality? How can we have knowledge of metaphysical truths? Is intuition a reliable faculty for metaphysical knowledge? Should we invoke thought experiments in metaphysics?

In this course, we will go through Tahko's introductory textbook: An Introduction to Metametaphysics (CUP 2015). Supplementary reading materials will also be provided for further understanding.
